Teasing your hair isn’t necessarily good for it. What you may not realize is that it can actually be really, really, really damaging to your hair and you may find that it is harder and harder to take care of it and manage to tease it on a regular basis. The question is—how do you take care of hair that you regularly tease?

Teased hairstyles put your hair through a lot. Not only are you forcing it against the grain, but you’re also knotting it up and then (hopefully) detangling it later that night. So how do you keep your hair from looking/feeling like a nightmare when you stop teasing it?
First of all, let your hair rest. This means no heat, no teasing, no anything except regular old brushing for a period of time. Maybe it needs to be a few times a week, maybe for a few months. It depends on how well that you have been caring for it.
Next, shampooing. Take good care of your hair. Use a shampoo that works for your hair’s needs. This may be something as simple as using shampoo for dry hair or using shampoo for oily hair, etc. Point is, take good care of it.
Don’t forget to condition your hair using an appropriate conditioner also. Conditioner can work wonders on dry hair—if your hair is regularly dry, then you may want to deep condition it on a regular basis in order to help repair it.
Last, if teasing is causing your hair to have split ends or breakages, stop teasing it. This may seem a bit harsh, but the point is that, at some point in time, your hair may become so damaged that you spend a few years without very much hair—assuming that you don’t give it the time to rest.
